About Elveden Ales

First brewed by Elevden Ales in 2004 to commemorate 400 years of the Harwich Royal Charter, Harwich Charter Ale is a modern interpretation of Artic Ale.

This strong, dark, brown ale was launched at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club in 1852 to accompany Commander Belcher's arctic expedition and was designed to withstand the rigours of the voyage and provide a nourishing liquid food for the crew.

Today Harwich Charter Ale is brewed in September each year in readiness for December when it is launched at the Harwich & Dovercourt Bay Winter Ale Festival. Since only one batch is brewed at Elveden each year only a limited number of casks and bottles are available.
